Our fund has invested in Infinitum Electric, an Austin based startup

Marunouchi Innovation Partners Co., Ltd. through Marunouchi Climate Tech Growth Fund L.P. (collectively “MIP”), has invested in Infinitum Electric (“Infinitum”), the creator and producer of the “Aircore” motor, a next-gen electric motor.

Infinitum has two key elements in its electric motor design – they have replaced the conventional stator, a key component of the motor composed of iron and copper, with a PCB (printed circuit board) stator. They have also integrated a VFD (variable frequency drive), a device used to control the speed of the motor, onto the motor housing itself, which is traditionally offered as a separate device. Compared to conventional motors, Infinitum’s motor is 50% lighter/smaller, 10% more efficient, 3dB quieter in operation, and it is made using 66% less copper. Infinitum is the first to successfully combine PCB stator and VFD technologies and deliver a full motor product to market.

As electric motors consume 53% of global electricity, there is increasing demand for more efficient motors (International Energy Agency). Infinitum is gaining traction in the data center market, a segment that faces pressure to reduce emissions. Specifically, Infinitum motors are used to power HVAC systems with less energy consumption, and their compact size also allows for data centers to increase server density. Future product roadmap includes releasing electric motors for factories and other industrial use cases, which are being co-developed with leading companies in the space. The funds raised in this round will be deployed to support the expanding customer pipeline by strengthening manufacturing capabilities (initiatives include increasing production lines, automation and securing inventory).

Ben Schuler, Infinitum CEO and Co-Founder:
“Millions of electric motors are needed each year to power AI, cool our buildings and electrify industrial workloads, and it’s critical for the planet that we choose to implement advanced, high-efficiency motors rather than conventional motors. We look forward to further expanding our company to meet customer demand and accelerate production of our sustainable motor systems.”

Ichiro Miyoshi, MIP CEO / CIO:
“We believe Infinitum’s sustainable Aircore motors are a proven climate tech solution that can make an immediate impact in reducing electricity consumption across a broad range of applications. We look forward to bolstering the company’s rapid acceleration and decarbonization efforts to support our goals of achieving a carbon neutral society.”
